Wolfgang Groß in the early days of humedica
In 1979, Dieter Groß from Kaufbeuren and friends traveled by train through Europe to Morocco. There they were confronted with great suffering and need - an experience that awakened the desire to actively help. Back in Germany, Dieter, his brother Wolfgang Groß and other comrades-in-arms founded an organization for humanitarian aid: humedica.
What began as an idea developed over the years into a multifaceted humanitarian work. humedica initially provided aid by transporting relief supplies. This was followed by sponsorship programs, education and development projects as well as disaster relief missions around the globe.
At the same time, a strong network grew: the Groß brothers were also very active regionally, successfully promoting their vision to the public - and thus gaining supporters from business, the media and society. Partnerships with companies, celebrity ambassadors and later campaigns such as "Gift with Heart" contributed significantly to strengthening humedica in the long term.
The year 2019 marked a milestone in humedica's history. After 40 years of tireless commitment to people in need, Wolfgang Groß handed over responsibility for "his" organization to his two successors Heinke Rauscher and Johannes Peter. Since 2021, they have continued his work together with the entire team and the third board member Bernd Weber, while at the same time setting their own priorities.
Today, humedica works together with an international network of sister organizations and country offices - for aid that overcomes borders and changes lives.
