Humanitarian aid is the core of humedica - it saves lives and alleviates acute suffering. But many crisis regions need more than a quick response: they need prospects for the future. That is why humedica, together with local partners, complements humanitarian work with development cooperation that strengthens structures and enables people to live self-determined lives in the long term.

From humanitarian aid to development cooperation

Saving lives, reducing suffering

Since its foundation, humedica has primarily provided acute aid in disasters and conflicts - always in accordance with the humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. This aid can take very different forms:

  • Deployment of a humedica emergency team with international medical volunteers
  • Delivery of Relief supplies to crisis regions in order to provide rapid assistance in disaster situations, but also to alleviate structural poverty in the long term
  • Short-term projects in cooperation with local organizations, e.g. distribution of medical equipment, hygiene articles, school supplies

Creating long-term structures together

Development cooperation helps to lay the foundations for a better future - for example through healthcare, education, food security and income generation. humedica has been increasingly involved in South Asia and East Africa in particular for several years:

  • Strengthening health systems - setting up health stations, medical training for local specialist staff, preventive measures, e.g. against malnutrition or infectious diseases. against malnutrition or infectious diseases
  • Enabling education - Supporting schools and vocational preparation programs
  • Securing livelihoods - Food security projects, agriculture and income generation - with a special focus on disadvantaged groups such as women or single mothers
  • Preventing crises - Disaster risk reduction, psychosocial support and community-based strategies for overcoming future crises

Where we are active

What we mean by development cooperation

Development cooperation creates stable structures, strengthens resilience and paves the way to independence. For humedica, this means working in partnership, needs-oriented and with local knowledge. Our projects are developed in close dialogue with our teams and partner organizations on the ground - because they have the expertise and know the needs of the population. This is how we develop long-term solutions together.
