Current Situation in Colombia
On August 10, 2026, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia. Regions around the epicenter near San José del Palmar in the Chocó Department were particularly hard hit. Damage was also reported in cities such as Cali, Pereira, Quibdó, and Manizales. Numerous buildings were damaged, and some collapsed completely.
According to the latest figures, more than 290 people have lost their lives. Nearly 4,000 have been injured and over 300 people are still missing (as at 17 August 2026). Rescue and search operations are ongoing. The full extent of the disaster is therefore not yet fully known.
