Fanja with her mother Harista
Hanitra and her daughter Fanja live in the south of Madagascar - an area characterized by poverty where it rarely rains. Hanitra does work in agriculture. However, the money she earns goes on hospital visits for her daughter. The two-year-old was weak, tired and could barely stand up. For a long time, Hanitra had no idea what was causing it. Until she met a team from SEED Madagascar, humedica's partner organization. They work closely with the local health station and also travel to the surrounding villages to examine the children there. Find out more about the project
Thanks to your donation, the mothers learn how to feed their children a nutritious diet.
Like many others here, Fanja is also malnourished and suffers from malaria, as the doctors discover. They treat Fanja and give her special food, thanks to which she can absorb many calories and quickly regain her strength. At the same time, Hanitra learns how important a balanced diet is and how to prepare healthy meals. Hanitra now also always puts the mosquito net around Fanja's bed very carefully to reduce her risk of contracting malaria again from a mosquito bite. Hanitra is also learning that hand washing and hygiene are important for her child's health.
She is happy. "Fanja has been healthy for over a month," she says happily. The money she previously had to spend in hospital can now be invested in nutritious food. She wants to pass on her newly acquired knowledge to the others in the village - so that all the children stay healthy.
