Yolandas neues Latrinenhaus auf ihrem Grundstück in Mosambik

Yolanda* can no longer walk. She moves on her knees across her small plot of land in the north of Mozambique and uses a stick for support. Her mobility is limited, but she doesn't let it stop her from laughing. A broad grin lights up her face: thanks to support from Germany, she has regained her dignity and independence.

Dressed in a colorful floral pattern, Yolanda sits on the ground in front of a house that is currently being built. Thin poles and clay plaster form the basic framework for the future rooms. The house is surrounded by gardens with corn and other vegetables, which Yolanda planted herself with the help of her three sons.

The cane helps Yolanda to move around.

A sudden change

It is unclear how she became paralyzed. It started with a severe headache and a burning sensation in her lower back. From there, the pain moved to her legs and suddenly she could no longer walk. But her radiant smile and infectious laugh remained intact. "I have very strong arms, from the waist up I can even fight with anyone," she jokes, gesticulating animatedly. As for her positive attitude, she says that her sons give her energy and the strength to live. It's clear that such a self-confident woman is reluctant to rely on the help of others.

Yolanda is beaming with gratitude - she can now live a self-determined life again.

Independence thanks to humedica's help

In the past, Yolanda needed the support of her neighbors when she had to go to the toilet - it was uncomfortable for her and took away some of her dignity. Now - thanks to your support - she is more independent and has regained an important part of her independence. Yolanda received a new latrine that is specially adapted to her needs. It is located in a separate house at the back of her small property. Although Yolanda has to cross her garden to get to the toilet, she appreciates the fact that it is her own. "It's suitable for me. Now I can't complain about anything," she says with a broad grin. "She makes my life so much easier."

This latrine makes Yolanda's everyday life much easier. She can now manage without the help of her neighbors.
