The situation in Nepal remains difficult following the catastrophic flooding in the Himalayas, and the death toll continues to rise. Thousands are still missing. Through a local partner organization, humedica is already providing assistance with a local medical team in the particularly hard-hit region of Trishuli-Bazar. The team includes three experts in psychological support. “We want to help the people. The emotional trauma suffered by the people and the damage to the infrastructure will keep us busy for the next three to five years,” reports Thomas Meier, humedica’s country coordinator in Nepal.
“We’re continuing to try to reach people in the higher-elevation regions with our aid. But around 80 bridges have been washed away. Without these bridges, almost nothing works in this area,” said Meier. At the same time, initial aid in the form of food packages and hygiene kits has already reached people, some of whom have lost everything. Tarps for emergency shelters are also set to be distributed. “To be able to quickly help people in this difficult situation, we continue to urgently rely on donations,” explains Heinke Rauscher, Executive Director of humedica. “Without the support of people here in Germany, our aid would not be possible.”
