Current Situation in Sudan

Sudan is experiencing one of the world’s largest displacement crises. Since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, around 6.4 million people have been displaced within the country, whilst a further 3.7 million have fled to neighbouring countries.

Many refugees are also seeking shelter in the east of the country, including people from the Ethiopian region of Tigray. At the same time, medical care is severely limited in many places. It is therefore particularly difficult for people with serious or chronic illnesses to receive the specialist treatment they need or to continue their therapy without interruption.

Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues and is exacerbating the humanitarian situation. Around 19.5 million people were affected by acute food insecurity between February and May 2026.

Here's how humedica helps:

Together with a local partner, humedica is improving access to necessary follow-up medical care for particularly vulnerable refugees and people from the surrounding host communities.

Equipment for healthcare facilities (medications, bandages, medical devices, etc.)
Medical Referrals: Patients whose conditions cannot be adequately treated in the refugee camps are referred to appropriate specialized medical facilities.
Coverage of Necessary Medical Expenses: Financial barriers should not prevent patients from receiving urgently needed specialist examinations and treatments.
Medications for People with Chronic Illnesses: Patients with chronic illnesses receive the medications they need so that their ongoing treatments are not interrupted.

Better coordination among healthcare facilities: Coordination between medical facilities in refugee camps and host hospitals is being improved.

Here's how you can help:

With your donation, you enable people who have been particularly affected by displacement and war to access medical treatment that goes beyond what is available in refugee camps.

On average, €50 covers the cost of treatment for a patient seeing a specialist.
