Fleeing Sudan: When Amina Had to Leave Everything Behind
As fighting escalates in El Fasher, the largest city in the Darfur region, Amina is four months pregnant. She loses her daily routine, her home, her husband, and several brothers.
Traveling along dusty roads and making countless stops, she flees with her six children over a thousand kilometers to the north. Hunger, fear, and a lack of medical care are her constant companions.
War and Displacement in Sudan Take a Toll on Mothers and Children
In the north of the country, Amina finally finds refuge in a refugee camp. But the consequences of her flight are severe. Malnutrition, stress, and a lack of medical care endanger the health of both mother and child.
Her youngest child has to be delivered by C-section. Even weeks later, she is still so weak that she can barely walk or carry her child.
I used to always have natural births, and my children were healthy and strong, and I was healthy, too. But this last boy… I don't have any milk for him.
Humanitarian Aid in Sudan Brings New Hope
Today, Amina lives with her family in a tent inside the camp. Conditions remain difficult, but the family is receiving vital support.

Sudan Crisis: Millions of People Are Dependent on Aid
The humanitarian situation in Sudan remains dire. According to the United Nations, approximately 14 million people have been displaced. About 12 million of them have had to seek refuge within their own country. Many regions lack food, clean water, and medical care.
Since the outbreak of the civil war in April 2023, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been fighting for control of the country. The violence is hitting the civilian population the hardest: people are being displaced, and food and medical aid supplies are collapsing. Around 14 million people are displaced, and more than 25 million are suffering from acute hunger. The conflict is considered the world’s largest refugee crisis.
