Eine pakistanische Frau hält ein Kind im Arm
In the remote mountainous regions of northern Pakistan, there is a lack of almost everything that makes up basic medical care: clinics, trained staff, roads, safe transport routes - and thus above all access to vital mother-child health. humedica is strengthening health care by expanding a health center and a mobile medical team.

Current situation in northern Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the countries with the lowest density of medical professionals per inhabitant. In the Lower Kohistan region, the situation is particularly precarious:

  • There is only one male doctor for every 56,000 people - and not a single female doctor in the entire district.
  • Most of the villages are located in mountainous areas that are difficult to access. Many villages can only be reached via narrow mountain paths; in an emergency, help is often impossible.
  • The roads to health facilities are long, dangerous and often impassable. More than half of the health stations have not been rebuilt since the 2022 floods.
  • Women are often not allowed to travel unaccompanied, which makes medical treatment even more difficult.
  • Child and maternal mortality rates are well above the national average. Most women do not receive a check-up during pregnancy. Births usually take place at home and without specialist staff.
  • Diseases that would be easily treatable endanger the lives of families due to a lack of care.
  • Many children barely survive the first years of life: half are unvaccinated, almost two thirds suffer from growth disorders, over a quarter are underweight - and almost all newborns receive no vital care after birth.

Pregnant women and young mothers in particular are at the mercy of these conditions. Simple infections, complications during birth or malnutrition can quickly become life-threatening without help.

How does humedica help?

We are strengthening a health center and its medical team so that, among other things, a midwife can help mothers and children, especially in remote mountain villages. Together with our partner PAK Mission Society - which has already set up the original facility with the help of humedica - we are strengthening the range of healthcare services in the long term.

Expansion and improvement of equipment (laboratory, examination equipment such as ultrasound, emergency outpatient clinic)
Extended services for pregnancy, birth and children's health
Regular medical missions in hard-to-reach mountain regions
Training on health, nutrition and hygiene (WASH)
Education on topics such as early childhood development and protection against violence
Cooperation with local health authorities
A specially trained emergency medical team provides rapid, coordinated assistance in the event of floods, landslides and epidemics

How you can help

Your donation will provide vital medical care to mothers and children in the most remote regions of Pakistan.

With 30 euros you can provide ten pregnant or breastfeeding women with vital micronutrients that prevent complications, malnutrition and premature births.
With 150 euros, you can provide a pregnant woman with complete, safe preventive care including ultrasound, laboratory tests and professional support.
With 300 euros, you can bring a mobile medical team to remote mountain villages where families otherwise have no access to medical help.
With 1,500 euros, you can secure a stable, renewable power supply for the health center with a solar system - for 24/7 maternity care, diagnostics and emergency care.
With EUR 2,450, you are providing an ultrasound machine that detects complications at an early stage and enables pregnant women to be diagnosed safely.
